Our cardiology services will go a long way in making sure that your pet’s heart and respiratory system stays healthy. Important symptoms to watch out for as indicators of heart and respiratory disease include:
- Shortness of breath
- Heart murmur
- Heart failure
- Irregular heartbeat
- Weakness or fainting
- Congenital heart disease
- Elevated systemic blood pressure
- Elevated lung pressure
- Infectious diseases such as heartworm
If your pet suffers from any of these symptoms, cardiology may be a good care option for them. Non-invasive procedures are used to quickly and safely examine your pet. A method known as Echo- cardiology utilizes sound waves to safely image the heart and its valves, assess blood flow, determine the root cause of murmurs, assess the strength and health of the heart muscle, and detect possible fluid accumulation or tumors. Blood tests can be used to evaluate kidney function and thyroid status. Electro-cardiology is used to assess the heart rate and potential irregularities. X-Rays provide crucial information about the chest. Certain congenital heart defects can be corrected or improved by interventional procedures. Cardiologists can also perform pacemaker implantation on cats and dogs whose heart rates are dangerously low.
If you suspect your pet may have heart or respiratory disease, please discuss it with your veterinarian. They and Dr Carrie Ginienczki, our cardiac specialist, will work with you to determine the best course of action for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy, and safe.
