Dr. Merry Gibson is a valued veterinarian at Animal Care Center of Castle Pines and is originally from St. Louis, Missouri.
She is a graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been practicing in the Denver area since 2012. Dr. Gibson holds certifications in veterinary acupuncture with a foundation in Chinese medicine and canine rehabilitation therapy.
She offers an integrative approach to medicine, combining the best of conventional medicine with holistic and alternative therapies focusing on GI health and nutrition.
Disheartened by the increasing number of young pets developing autoimmune diseases and cancer, Dr. Gibson began researching and studying alternative therapies as well as diagnostics that can be run to help detect the early onset of inflammation and disease. Dr. Gibson has seen firsthand the body's amazing capacity to heal itself if given the right support.
Her medical philosophy is that food is medicine and she believes there is a nutritional component to every case. Part of every consult with Dr. Gibson includes a discussion of disease prevention using diet and nutritional supplements that can bolster health and keep your pets well. Dr. Gibson also believes that all disease begins in the gut. This is where approximately 70-85% of the immune system is. Therefore, part of disease prevention includes keeping the GI tract healthy. A pet's gut microbiome plays an important role in host health and immunity and if out of balance, can create disease. Dr. Gibson utilizes therapies such as microbiome restorative therapies (fecal transplantation) that can help re-establish a healthy gut microbiome, improving pets' immune systems and overall health.
Other modalities Dr. Gibson might use to help your pet include acupuncture and Chinese herbs, veterinary orthopedic manipulation (VOM), PEMF hyperthermia, ozone therapy, ultraviolet biophotonic therapy, and more.
When Dr. Gibson is not hard at work, she enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with her husband, skiing, hiking, and paddle boarding. She also practices the martial arts of Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Last but not least, she and her husband share their home with one fur baby named Izzy, a Rat Terrier mix whom they love fiercely.
